You can pledge the following assets to obtain margin, provided they are in the broker’s or exchange’s approved list of securities:
Equity Shares Shares of companies listed on stock exchanges. High-quality stocks (blue-chip or large-cap) are generally preferred due to lower haircuts.
Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) Units of ETFs like Nifty 50 ETFs or Gold ETFs can be pledged for margin.
Mutual Funds Certain mutual fund units (both debt and equity) can be pledged.
Bonds Government bonds, sovereign gold bonds (SGBs), and other high-rated corporate bonds.
Other Securities In some cases, brokers allow pledging of sovereign securities or debt instruments with good credit ratings.
